Transferring a Mobile Number to Another Person

Most wireless providers allow you to transfer the ownership of a mobile number from one person to another. Instead of terminating the line and paying early‑termination fees, a transfer shifts both the financial responsibility and the remaining contractual obligations to the new owner.

The new owner must meet the provider’s eligibility criteria, which usually include a credit check and a minimum age of 18 years.

Step 1: Contact Your Provider

Call the customer‑service number listed on your bill (or search online) and ask about the transfer of liability process. The representative will tell you whether the transfer can be completed online or if you need to visit a store.

Step 2: Provide the New Owner’s Information

Give the representative the new owner’s personal details: full name, address, phone number, and a valid photo ID. The new owner must sign a release form to assume the number.
